Exxaro Bursary South Africa 2024 – 2025, Exxaro Resources Limited is a big South African heavy minerals and coal mining company, with offices and operating facilities across Africa, Europe, Australia and Asia. The JSE-listed company was previously part of Kumba Resources and was previously known as Kumba Resources Limited before the name change in 2006 due to unbundling of the company’s iron ore assets.

Exxaro Resources Limited is headquartered in Pretoria West, South Africa and is one of the top South African-based diversified, black-empowered companies. The company’s mine targets include; zero effluent, zero waste emissions, sustainable engineering and wash-to-zero.
 

ABOUT THE EXXARO BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED | COVERAGE VALUE

Exxaro is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2023 academic year.

Exxaro offers 3 types of bursaries programmes:
1) Feeder Scheme bursaries: for undergraduate studies within the following core mining industry disciplines:

  • Geology
  • Electrical Engineering (BEng)
  • Industrial Engineering (BEng)
  • Mechanical/ Mechatronic Engineering (BEng)
  • Metallurgical Engineering (BEng)
  • Mining Engineering (BSc)
  • Mine Surveying / MRM

2) Social Scheme bursaries: for students residing in communities where Exxaro operates, for studies within the following high-demand occupations:

  • Computer Science, Data Sciences and Information Technology
  • Education (Teaching English, Mathematics & Science & Early Childhood Development)
  • Medicine, Optometry, Audiology & Nursing
  • Nutrition & Dietetics
  • Occupational & Speech Therapy
  • Social Work & Psychology
  • Sports Management & Biokinetics

3) Students living with disabilities bursaries: for students residing in communities where Exxaro operates, who are living with a disability. The bursary covers all fields of study.

MORE ABOUT THE EXXARO BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, books, accommodation in residence, meal allowance and a cash allowance for other expenses. The bursary may also provide cover for a laptop/ tablet and data.

Apart from the financial support, bursary recipients will also receive the following benefits:

  • Assistance from senior leaders with many years of experience
  • Practical work exposure at Exxaro operations each year
  • Administrative support and monitoring from a Dedicated Talent Pipeline
  • Campus visits during 1st and 2nd semesters (from Talent Management and discipline mentors)
  • Contact with other Exxaro bursary recipients
  • Awards and prizes to top-performing bursary recipients

Recipients of the Feeder Scheme bursaries may also be offered a possible Professional-in-Training opportunity after graduation.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE EXXARO BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
1) Feeder Scheme bursaries:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be studying full-time, towards a minimum 4-year undergraduate degree in one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Geology students: you must be in your 2nd year of study
  • Electrical Engineering (BEng): you must be in your 2nd year of study
  • Industrial Engineering (BEng): you must be in your 2nd or 3rd year of study
  • Mechanical/ Mechatronic Engineering (BEng): you must be in your 2nd or 4th/ final year of study
  • Metallurgical Engineering (BEng): you must be in your 2nd or 3rd year of study
  • Mining Engineering (BSc): you must be in your 2nd or 4th/ final year of study
  • Mine Surveying / MRM: you must be in your 2nd year of study

2) Social Scheme bursaries

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must reside within a community where Exxaro operates (Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the surrounding areas)
  • You must be studying full-time, towards a minimum 3-year undergraduate degree in one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa

3) Students living with disabilities bursaries

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must reside within a community where Exxaro operates (Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the surrounding areas)
  • You must be living with a disability
  • You must be studying full-time, towards any discipline
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
