Merseta is only one of the known 21 sectors, of training and education departments, which was established to develop, and promote talented candidates in skills training for scarce skills through Merseta Learnerships.
Candidates are asked to register with the Department of Labour, as unemployed individuals, seeking a learnership. Candidates can do this via the link provided under the application process. Candidates must ensure their contact details are kept up to date and that they are always accessible via these methods of contact. Candidates who have registered may be contacted when an appropriate learnership becomes available if candidates adhere to all requirements.
Most of these learnerships will be for a duration of 12 to 24 months. Learners will also receive a monthly stipend, however, these do not usually include transport, meals, and accommodation. A learnership is not a guarantee of a permanent position once completed, this will be the employer’s choice. Candidates will, however, be better equipped to enter the workforce once they have completed a learnership.

Requirements
Candidates must include a detailed curriculum vitae with contact details, contactable references as well as any information they feel may be appropriate to their application. Different qualifications may be applicable, in accordance with the career path chosen. Please also include certified copies of all relevant certificates, ID documentation and proof of residence, no older than three months.
Candidates will also be required to have the following:
- Candidates must be a South African citizen
- All candidates must hold a Matric / Grade 12 certificate
- Candidates must be proficient in English (read, write and speak)
- You must be proficient in one other national language
- Candidates who are Computer literate will be an advantage
- All candidates must be self-motivated and a team player
- Flexibility with a commitment to learning, but moreover willingness to work
Merseta Learnerships Application
Learnerships online applications processes are made available, as these learnerships become obtainable. Candidates can download the learnership agreement form from the Merseta webpage. Learnerships may be for a duration of 12 to 24 months. Candidates must register with ESSA via this link.
Candidates wanting to apply can also find out from their University Career centre if there are any open learnerships. Advertisements will also be placed in newspapers, and/or on the radio once these become available.
Merseta Learnerships Closing Dates
There are no distinct closing dates for these learnerships. Each will be dependent on the company providing the learnership.
Candidates must always remember to complete the application fully, and sign it. Documentation attached should never be your originals but must be certified copies of the originals. Incomplete, late or applications without documentation will not be taken into consideration.
Candidates must always apply for a learnership within their interests and skills. If you apply for something you do not enjoy, and you get selected, you will be in that position for the entire term of the learnership, therefore, it is a great idea to ensure, that you apply for something you really want to do.
