WeThinkCode Bursaries South Africa 2024 – 2025

ABOUT THE BURSAR

WeThinkCode_ are an institution with the goal of addressing the gap in the IT sector in South Africa. Their goal is to develop the digital talent of Africa’s next generation. Considered one of the top software engineering schools in the world, they deliver the School 42 curriculum.

WeThinkCode_ trains world-class software engineers with their 2-year course, in a fun peer-to-peer, problem-solving learning environment.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

The WeThinkCode_ is a full-time tuition-free course, sponsored by some of South Africa’s top companies, including Telkom, FNB, BBD, Derivco, Dimension Data and IQ Business.

The course runs over a period of 2 years, where students will learn both front-end and back-end programming.

Tuition fees and a stipend of R2000/ month (for food and transport) are covered by corporate sponsors. Students will be required to complete 2 paid internships, of 4 months each, with their sponsor company during the course of their studies. Upon graduation, students will be required to take up employment at their sponsor company for the equal duration of the bursary award.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

South African citizen/ permanent resident (eligible to study and work in South Africa)
Between 17 and 35 years old
Able to study at the campus in Johannesburg

Please Note: No previous education required – those who have not completed Matric are also welcome to apply.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants will be required to partake in a series of online tests – those who are successful will be invited to partake in the selection Bootcamp.

The Bootcamp will take place in early 2017 and will run over a course of 4 weeks. The Bootcamp includes intense problem solving and will ultimately determine which students will be awarded the bursary.

Applicants will be required to attend campus every day of the Bootcamp (this includes weekends), for a minimum of 10 hours per day. Your task will include working with fellow students to problem-solve via computer programming.

Top applicants of the selection Bootcamp will be invited to study at WeThinkCode_ full time.

CLOSING DATE

None. Applications will close once the selection Bootcamp slots have been filled – it works on a first-come-first-served basis.
